Ylä-Savon Jätehuolto Oy

Ylä-Savon Jätehuolto Oy is a waste management company owned jointly by seven municipalities in the Upper Savo region (Iisalmi, Keitele, Kiuruvesi, Lapinlahti, Pielavesi, Sonkajärvi and Vieremä). It is tasked with performing the legally required municipal waste management services for the municipalities that own it. The company was established in 1997, and its geographical area of operation encompasses about 55,000 inhabitants. The service network comprises the Upper Savo Waste Handling Centre, the eco take-back points available for households and the waste sorting centres as well as provision of waste disposal service guidance.

Important:

  • Each and every property must have a waste disposal arrangement in place.
  • For housing companies, the waste management agreements are managed by the building manager or the housing company’s board.
  • Detached houses and semi-detached houses may have their own waste container or a shared container together with neighbours (joint waste collection arrangement).

Sorting to be done by households

Household waste needs to be sorted into the following types: biowaste, paper, plastic packages, carton packages, metal packages, glass packages and mixed waste. Packaging waste is also collected at eco take-back points.

Additionally, pharmaceutical waste, empty batteries, discarded textiles, discarded electrical appliances and hazardous waste need to be taken to their specific collection points.
